60% of Americans Disagree with the Fundamentals of Biden’s Student Loan Cancellation Plan

A recent poll by Scott Rasmussen found that a very narrow majority of 51% of voters supported President Biden’s proposal to forgive up to $10,000 in student loans for people earning up to $150,000 a year.

However, polling also showed that most Americans lacked support for the full extent of the President’s plan. Nearly 60% of American voters either oppose student loan forgiveness or believe it should be limited to people earning less than $50,000 a year, far lower than the $150,000 threshold specified by the Biden Administration.

Additionally, half of voters believe that student loan forgiveness is unfair to those who never went to college, and 51% believed that student loan forgiveness was unfair to Americans who have already paid off their student loans.

This survey included 1,200 registered voters, who indicated a wide range of viewpoints on this topic.

Despite these results, many Americans find arguments against student loan forgiveness both compelling and convincing. Our report on the effectiveness of counterarguments against student loan cancellation suggests that an American majority in waiting exists against the move to do so.
