Americans oppose sex-change procedures for minors

Large majorities of Americans believe underage minors should be required to wait until they are adults to receive treatment like puberty blockers and surgery to transition to another gender. This is according to a poll 1,079 respondents by The Trafalgar Group conducted October 18-20, 2022.

Respondents were asked, “Do you believe underage minors should be required to wait until they are adults to use puberty blockers and undergo permanent sex change procedures?”

78.7 percent of Americans say minors should have to wait until adulthood vs. 21.3% who said don’t wait.

Majorities of all political offilliations agreed.

  • 96.8% of Republicans
  • 84.6% of Independents or Third Party
  • 53.2% of Democrats

The poll result provides context to protests of hospitals that provide so-called “gender-affirming care” to minors.
