Banning Gas Stoves and Cars – What Do Voters Think?

Proposals from the Biden administration and environmental activists that would limit consumer choices and cut domestic oil production inspire intense opposition.

Eighty-four percent of registered voters agree that when it comes to choosing between an electric or gas-powered vehicle or appliance, consumers should decide, not the government.

  • 59% strongly agree.

WHY IT MATTERS – Environmental groups are pushing President Biden to declare a national climate emergency and take actions that would cut domestic oil production and ban – or significantly limit – production of new gas-powered vehicles and appliances.

YES, BUT – While there is modest support for declaring a climate emergency, there is opposition to the types of actions such a declaration would empower the president to take.

HOW TO USE THIS DATA – The Biden administration and environmental group’s proposals are a wedge issue that alienate key parts of the Democrat’s coalition and could help build America’s New Majority.

  • Other actions, such as reducing domestic oil production, have the support of a majority of Democrats but alienate swing voters and undecided voters.

  • This includes 92% of Republicans, 74% of Democrats, and 84% of independents.
