Battleground State Voters Blame the Corrupt Political System
- 7-in-10 voters from battleground states say the country is on the wrong track. This includes a majority of voters from all demographics, except for Democrats.
- 8-in-10 voters from battleground states say the corrupt political system is a major obstacle to getting America moving in the right direction. This includes 91% of Republicans, 78% of Democrats, and 81% of independents.
Results of Corruption
- 59% of battleground state voters say government waste is a result of the corrupt political system. Wisconsin voters are particularly focused on government waste, with 68% saying it is a result of corruption.
- 57% say inflation and the rising cost of living are the result of the corrupt political system.
- 52% say division is a result of the corrupt political system.
- There are significant differences by party. Republicans are most likely to choose government waste, inflation, and illegal immigration as results of the corrupt political system. Democrats are most likely to choose tax breaks for the rich and corporations. Independents are mostly likely to choose government waste and division.
Priorities for Reform
- 35% of battleground state voters say budget reform is the most needed to reform the corrupt political system.
- 32% say election integrity reform is most needed to reform the corrupt political system.
- 28% say lobbying reform is most needed and 28% say campaign finance reform is most needed to reform the corrupt political system.
- There are significant differences by party. Republicans emphasize budget, election integrity and media reform. Democrats emphasize budget and campaign finance reform. Independents and swing voters emphasize budget and lobbying reform.
