Emergency Spending – What Will Americans Support?

Americans agree on emergency spending for hurricanes and wildfires, but spending for border security and Ukraine are more divisive.

  • There is bipartisan agreement that the Maui wildfires and Hurricane Idalia qualify as emergencies, but not on whether the border crisis or Ukraine invasion qualify as emergencies.
  • There is bipartisan support for additional spending to address the aftermath of the Maui wildfires and Hurricane Idalia, but mixed support for more border spending, and weak support for additional Ukraine spending.
  • The support for Ukraine spending is lower than other polls, which may be because it was presented in the context of other priorities.
  • Republican and Independent support drops when spending for Ukraine is included in an emergency spending bill.
