House GOP Health Care Bills Have Strong Bipartisan Support

Exclusive poll shows legislation increasing transparency and competition in health care attracts support from Independents and Swing Voters.

Health care bills which were the focus of recent House Energy and Commerce hearings are widely popular with the American people, according to an exclusive new health care poll from America’s New Majority Project.

WHY IT MATTERS – Republicans have historically trailed Democrats on who is most trusted in health care. The popularity of these bills could give the GOP a boost electorally if candidates are aggressive about explaining their health care agendas.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • Increasing the transparency of real health prices is widely popular when explained as a tool of patient protection and empowerment.
  • For pharmacy benefit manger (PBM) reform, focus on health insurance companies, who are known and understood by Americans, rather than PBMs, who are not.
  • Site neutral payments in Medicare also receive large support if the benefits are explained (lowering out-of-pocket costs and strengthening Medicare).
  • While still receiving majority support, there is more skepticism around allowing physicians to own hospitals, with one-in-four Americans expressing no opinion.

BOTTOM LINE – Increasing transparency and competition in health care is a magnet issue that attracts support from Independents, Democrats, and Swing Voters.
