Nearly 3-in-4 Say America Needs a Change in Direction
- 72% say America needs a change in direction. This includes 93% of Republicans, 53% of Democrats, and 21% of independents.
- 22% say America needs to move forward on the current path.
- 80% of New Majority voters say we need a change in direction, compared to 44% of Left Minority voters.
Voters Want Different Policies than Biden’s Policies but Expect the Same from Harris
- 64% would prefer policies somewhat or a lot different than Biden’s policies from the next administration and Congress. This includes 94% of Republicans, 33% of Democrats, and 65% of independents.
- Democrats are the only demographic with a majority who would prefer policies a lot or somewhat like Biden’s policies.
- 66% say they would expect Harris to try and pass policies a lot or somewhat like Biden’s if she becomes president. This includes a majority or plurality of all voter subgroups.
- After learning about Harris’s economic proposals, including child tax credits, taxes, price controls, and subsidies for housing and health insurance, 60% say these policies sound like Biden’s policies.
Learning of Harris’s Tie-Breaking Votes Increases Blame for Economy
- 67% believe Harris’s decisions as vice president impacted the U.S. economy. 31% say they had a lot of impact.
- After learning about Harris’s tie-breaking votes in the Senate on the Stimulus and Inflation Reduction Act, 83% say Harris had an impact on the U.S. economy – a 16-point increase. 44% say a lot of impact – a 13-point increase.
Most Voters Agree: Voting for Harris is Voting for Biden’s Economic Policies
- 57% agree with a messaging statement about how a vote for Harris would be a vote for the same failed economic policies as Biden, and that we need a change in leadership for a change in direction. This includes 88% of Republicans, 31% of Democrats, and 53% of independents.
- Notably, single women, who are overwhelmingly pro-Harris, are nearly evenly split on agreement with the messaging.
