Mixed Support for Biden’s Amnesty Program for Illegal Immigrants Married to US Citizens

Nearly 3-in-4 Americans say the US should first secure the border and fix its immigration laws before deciding on what to do with the illegal immigrants already in the country, including the spouses of US citizens.

    WHY IT MATTERS
In June, President Joe Biden announced a new amnesty program to shield illegal immigrants married to US citizens from deportation and allow them to apply for permanent residence and a green card. Approximately 500,000 illegal immigrants are estimated to qualify.

    HOW TO USE THIS DATA
The results show while there is a slim majority in support of Biden’s amnesty plan, voters overwhelmingly believe the border must be secured first. Advocates for border security can use this argument to trump any support for the Biden plan.
