Most Americans believe the United States is moving toward socialism, and they’re not happy about it.
In a Fox News poll of 1,206 registered voters, participants were asked, “Do you think the country is currently moving away from capitalism and more toward socialism, or not?” Fifty-four percent of voters believe replied “yes, it is.” Only 38 percent said “no, it’s not.”
- This is up from 2012, when 51 percent answered yes to the same question and 43 percent said no.
In addition, when asked, “Do you think it would be a good thing or a bad thing for the United States to move away from capitalism and more toward socialism,” 60 percent said it would be a “bad thing.”
- This includes 83 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of Independents, and 35 percent of Democrats.
Only thirty-two percent of Americans thought moving toward socialism would be a good thing.
- This includes 14 percent of Republicans and 24 percent of Independents.
- Democrats were the only group who showed majority support for moving toward socialism, with 53% saying it would be a good thing.
These results align with a previous survey which found that 75 percent of participants preferred Equal Opportunity Capitalism compared to 10 percent in favor of Big Government Socialism.
