Americans’ perceptions of the economy have soured considerably over the past year.
WHY IT MATTERS – Economic sentiment often sours before actual economic data. Public perception that the economy is bad can lead to less spending and investment, which can lower economic growth.
THE CHANGE – A Scott Rasmussen poll from Nov. 17-20, 2022 shows the following shift from November 2021.
- 58 percent of registered voters said the U.S. is currently in a recession, up 18 points.
- 20 percent say it is not in a recession, down 9 points.
