Most Republicans Consider Themselves MAGA or “America First” Republicans

The number of people who think the country is on the wrong track increased to 73%

More than half (55%) of registered Republicans consider themselves “MAGA” or “America First” Republicans.

  • 33% do not, and 12% don’t know.

WHY IT MATTERS – The strong affinity among Republican voters toward former President Donald Trump’s key branding shows how strong a hold he still has on the GOP electorate.

STATE OF PLAY – A June 8-11, 2023, poll for America’s New Majority Project conducted by McLaughlin and Associates also revealed:

Republicans have a 46%-40% lead on the generic ballot.

  • Republicans lead 38%-27% among Independents, with a large 36% undecided.
  • Among Republican voters, the GOP candidate leads 94%-2%, whereas among Democrat voters, the Democrat lead is only 87%-6%.
  • This 6-point lead is within the margin of error of our May 2023 polls (+/- 2.2%).

73% believe the country has gotten off on the wrong track.

  • This is a 5% increase in “wrong track” in one month.
  • Just 27% believe things are going in the right direction.

58% disapprove of the job Joe Biden is doing as President.

  • This is a 3% increase in disapproval since May.
  • 42% approve.
